Never in the history of the modern Games had a host city so clearly manifested
Olympic Identity. Each of the Olympic installations and the principal thorough-
fares leading to them were decorated by the Department of Urban Design. The
vast plaza of Olympic Stadium (opposite) was painted with radial elements—
derived from the logotype—which served to demark entrances.
