INFORMATION ET COMMUNICATIONS INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS
The highly-comprehensive Information Program carried out by the Organ-
izing Committee for the Games of the XIX Olympiad was divided into two
distinct phases. The first, the Program of Olympic Identity, consisted
essentially of the creation of an image of the Olympiad in Mexico and
of the world-wide projection of that image. The second phase encom-
passed the direct media coverage of the events of the XIX Olympiad.
While general interest in the Olympic Games is universal and requires
little additional stimulation, the special nature that Mexico wished to
give the Games that would be held here was amplified by a distinctive
style created for this purpose by the Program of Olympic Identity.
With this purpose in mind, Pedro Ramírez Vázquez created the depart-
ments of Publications and Urban Design, which worked as a single team
to integrate the various aspects of design and communication related to
the XIX Olympiad. The general coordinator of this program, as well as
that of Urban Design, was architect Eduardo Terrazas, and the publica-
tions were under the direction of Beatrice Trueblood.
