porteront ainsi sur 850 m. jusqu'à la côte, où il sera confié au premier des
816 coureurs qui, en six jours, l'amèneront à Mexico.
Precisely on schedule, the Olympic Flame arrived at the port of Veracruz at
3:55 p.m. on October 6. Moments later, Eduardo Moreno, the first athlete
ever to relay the Flame by water, received the torch from aboard the destroyer
Durango. Holding it high, he swims 50 metres to the second of seventeen
swimmers who carried the Flame 850 metres to the shore. There the first of
816 runners began the six-day relay to Mexico City.
