Eduardo Moreno, le premier athlète de l'histoire à transporter la Flamme<br />

à la nage, recoit la torche amenée sur le destroyer Durango. Après un par-<br />

cours de 50 m., il remet le Flambeau au second des 17 nageurs qui le tran-<br />

porteront ainsi sur 850 m. jusqu'à la côte, où il sera confié au premier des<br />

816 coureurs qui, en six jours, l'amèneront à <strong>Mexico</strong>.<br />

Precisely on schedule, the <strong>Olympic</strong> Flame arrived at the port of Veracruz at<br />

3:55 p.m. on October 6. Moments later, Eduardo Moreno, the first athlete<br />

ever to relay the Flame by water, received the torch from aboard the destroyer<br />

Durango. Holding it high, he swims 50 metres to the second of seventeen<br />

swimmers who carried the Flame 850 metres to the shore. There the first of<br />

816 runners began the six-day relay to <strong>Mexico</strong> <strong>City</strong>.
