agriculture. Similar yields have been obtained in fertilizer experiments, but<br />

are lower than potential yields simulated from climatic data (Sys 1991).<br />

Table 11 summarizes the assessment of the number of food portions of<br />

2,220 Kcal that the area may produce. A distinction is made between portions<br />

exported as wheat and portions available for the local population.<br />
