LA MODELISATION COMME CONSTRUCTION THEORIQUE<br />

L’expérimentation ne vient pas d’emblée, et l’on tend à la décrire aujourd’hui à partir<br />
de la notion de modèle, à laquelle il faut associer la modélisation. Essentiellement<br />
opératoire, le modèle peut devenir un outil d'observation, de c<strong>al</strong>cul ou de prévision.<br />
Descriptif et/ou prédictif, tel l'échiquier du début d'Alice au pays des merveilles (1865)<br />
de Lewis Carroll, le couple modèle/modélisation a une v<strong>al</strong>eur représentative, dont on<br />
peut explorer le statut méthodologique ou épistémologique. Loin d’épuiser le<br />
phénomène étudié, le modèle témoigne d'un point de vue parmi d'autres possibles,<br />
comme un réseau de caus<strong>al</strong>ités, et sert comme une hypothèse, à la fois organisatrice<br />
des faits rassemblés et réductrice de ceux-ci.<br />

Abstract<br />
The experimentation does not come immediately. We are tending nowadays to<br />
describe it from the notion of model associated to modeling. Being essenti<strong>al</strong>ly<br />
function<strong>al</strong>, the model can be a device for observation, c<strong>al</strong>culus and prevision.<br />
Descriptive and/ or predictive, like the chessboard in the beginning of Alice in<br />
Wonderland (1865) of Lewis Carroll, the couple model/modeling has a representative<br />
v<strong>al</strong>ue that we can explore its methodologic<strong>al</strong> and epistemologic<strong>al</strong> status. Far from<br />
exhausting the phenomenon in question, the model expresses one point of view<br />
among others <strong>al</strong>l possible, like a web of caus<strong>al</strong>ities, and functions like a hypothesis<br />
organizing the facts and reducing them at the same time.<br />
