8ABSTRACTABSTRACTThis study presents an analysis of radio language based on reflections about the identity andculture place that echoes from utterances and declarations. Thus, an investigation corpus ofsix radio broadcasts of the Bom Dia, Litoral radio program, from January to February 2008,was set. Such program is broadcast by Radio Maristela AM, located in Torres, RS. Bardin(2007) and Meihy’s (1998) concepts of content analysis about oral history were used asmethodological support. The theoretical support was found in Ferraretto (2001), Ortiz andMarchamalo’s (1997) ideas on radio communication, in Bakhtin’s (1995) reflections onlanguage, in Bhabha (2003) and Hall’s (2000) concepts of culture and identity, among otherauthors. The analysis sought to observe the composition of the referred radio program, whichis broadcast by a Catholic Church’s radio station in a state-bordering coastal town. Thereflections went over the radio communication codes (microcodes and macrocodes), aiming toinvestigate the composition of utterances and declarations, in which identity and culture in theradio language were assessed. Besides, the role of the radio towards the Catholic Church asan attempt to assess the space used for religious propagation was studied. The broadcasts ofthe Bom Dia, Litoral program demonstrate that, at Radio Maristela, the dialogue between thechurch and the MCS occurs in a peculiar way as preaching time is extremely restrict. However, Christian values such as solidarity, union, caring and sharing, charity, among othersare indirectly passed on by the utterances transmitted by the radio program. The analysishighlighted the specific characteristics that contribute to the concept that the radio languagemay become an important mark for identity and culture. It was also found that different timesand places may echo through the radio language.Key-words: Communication. Radio Language. Culture. Catholic Church.
