INUNDAÇÃO DAS MINAS
URGEIRIÇA / BICA (inundação das minas)
Constituindo-se a inundação das minas numa operação tendente à minimização dos impactes gerados no meio hídrico em consequência das águas
de mina, uma vez que levam à criação de condições anóxicas limitadoras da dissolução de minerais potencialmente contaminantes que com elas
contactam, procurou-se assumir tal processo em todas as áreas mineiras em que prevaleceram trabalhos subterrâneos com tratamentos por lixiviação
in-situ, como foi numa fase final da exploração, o caso dos radioactivos.

URGEIRIÇA / BICA (mine flooding)
The flooding of mines is an operation
tending to minimize impacts generated
in the hydro environment as a
consequence of mine waters since
they lead to the creation of anoxic
conditions that limit the dissolution
of potentially contaminating minerals
that come into contact with them. It
was thus endeavoured to assume such
a procedure in all the mining areas
where underground work prevailed
with in situ bleaching treatments, as
happened in the final exploiting stage,
in the case of radioactive minerals.
The results obtained in two of these
radioactive mining areas, due to the
evolution of the uranium and radium
components, in Urgeiriça, and through
uranium and pH, in Bica, show a trend
towards a significant improvement in
water quality throughout the time.
