LOUSAL (heritage conservation)<br />
What has fundamentally been carried<br />
out within the Relousal Programme,<br />
with respect to conservation, refurbishing<br />
the mining heritage and<br />
adopting many of the buildings in<br />
the mining village to multiple uses,<br />
should be singled out, having preceded<br />
the environmental recovery<br />
work, which solutions are linked to<br />
the whole museology project that is<br />
planned to be developed in this ancient<br />
Alentejo mining area.<br />
The Lousal Mining Museum, located<br />
in the building of the Former Power<br />
Plant, officially opened in 2001, and<br />
the Lousal Live Science Centre, an<br />
interactive area for scientific and<br />
technological dissemination within<br />
the scope of geology, chemistry,<br />
biology and virtual science, opened<br />
in 2010, are examples of the enormous<br />
regard that has been given<br />
to the valuing of the heritage represented<br />
by this important mining<br />
area of the past.<br />
Other buildings have also been modified,<br />
intended to house outposts<br />
for the sale of crafted goods and<br />
one of these, the so-called General<br />
Stores, was converted to a restaurant<br />
for the use of the many visitors that<br />
come to the Lousal mining area.
