Konferenz von 19.–22.09.2012 im Historischen Museum Baden in Baden / Schweiz
Das Gedenken an das Friedensvertragswerk zum Abschluss des Spanischen Erbfolgekrieges
1713–2013 nahm die Konferenz zum Anlass, den Blick auf die Translationsleistungen und -defizite
im vormodernen Friedensprozess zu lenken. Der Friedensort Baden / Schweiz eignete sich für
dieses Vorhaben deshalb so gut, weil die Vertragspartner – und zwar die Bevollmächtigten von
Kaiser und Reich sowie von Frankreich – sich hier zusammengefunden haben, um den Vertrag
von Rastatt vom Französischen ins Lateinische zu übersetzen. Auf der Tagung ging es also nicht
darum, die Frieden von Utrecht, Rastatt oder Baden als solche zu thematisieren, sondern es
wurden spezifische Aspekte der Friedensvertragspraxis und -theorie erörtert. Die Tagung war
