Methods such as DES,which enable the resolution of as many turbulenteddies as is affordable are therefore ideally suitedfor efficient aero-acoustic s<strong>im</strong>ulations. This formsa particular emphasis of the TU Berlin work, withthe a<strong>im</strong> of providing engineers with a useful aeroacousticprediction tool to ult<strong>im</strong>ately reduce suchnoise in future designs. Two flow configurationsthat are particularly interesting for airframe noises<strong>im</strong>ulation are shown in the figure: The tandemcylinders are considered a benchmark test casefor airframe noise as well as providing a very challengingflow in its own right. The s<strong>im</strong>plified landinggear is the focus of international efforts to compareand <strong>im</strong>prove computational aero-acoustic s<strong>im</strong>ulationmethods.These activities therefore contribute to the <strong>im</strong>provementand industrialisation of efficient methodsfor turbulence s<strong>im</strong>ulation, which can be appliedby the air transport industry in the design ofgreener and quieter aircraft of the future.More Information1.
