of <strong>in</strong>fluenc<strong>in</strong>g decision-mak<strong>in</strong>g and policy-mak<strong>in</strong>g processes, and a new <strong>health</strong><br />
<strong>in</strong>formation web site is be<strong>in</strong>g developed.<br />
It is worth not<strong>in</strong>g that <strong>patient</strong>s’ common rights, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formed consent, provision<br />
of <strong>in</strong>formation and access to medical records, also apply to blood transfusion.<br />
Transfusion and haemovigilance organization <strong>in</strong> France<br />
The overall goal of haemovigilance is to <strong>in</strong>crease the <strong>safety</strong> and quality of blood<br />
transfusion (Article R1221-22). Accord<strong>in</strong>g to Decree No. 2006-99 (1 February 2006)<br />
relat<strong>in</strong>g to the blood transfusion centres and haemovigilance and modify<strong>in</strong>g the Public<br />
Health Code (Article R1221-24), the national haemovigilance system consists of:<br />
» AFSSAPS;<br />
» National Haemovigilance Commission;<br />
» regional haemovigilance coord<strong>in</strong>ators (mentioned <strong>in</strong> Article R1221-32);<br />
» EFS and the CTSA;<br />
» National Institute for Public Health Surveillance; and<br />
» <strong>health</strong> <strong>care</strong> facilities and armed forces hospitals (haemovigilance correspondents),<br />
transfusion <strong>safety</strong> and haemovigilance committees or facility medical commission
