This chapter gives you important background to the society <strong>of</strong> the Babylonians, and<br />

the context in which they developed their <strong>mathematics</strong>.<br />

There are no mathematical activities in this chapter.<br />

Read this chapter as background, so that you can understand the achievements<br />

described in Chapter 2.<br />
