3.38.6 Implications for water quality and quantity management<br />

The main impact to be expected is from the Inyati Mine, with possible heavy metals and acid mine drainage.<br />

Alluvial gold mining will also affect the rivers. Widespread quarrying of dolerite (“black granite”) alters local<br />

drainage patterns and provides depressions for development of stagnant pools of water.<br />

3.39 The Kairezi sub-catchment<br />

3.39.1 General description<br />

3.39.1.1 Hydrology<br />

This is Zones G1-G2 of Area F (ZSG, 1984). The main tributary of the Kairezi (Gairezi) River is the Matisi River.<br />
