4.12.2 Mining and mineral processing operations<br />

An extensive source of heavy mineral sands (containing titanium, illmenite and zirconium) is under prospecting<br />

licence close to the town of Xai-Xai at the mouth of the Limpopo River (Table 4.12).<br />

4.12.4 Monitoring systems<br />

The Mozambique Department of Water Affairs monitors flows in the Limpopo River at three flow gauging<br />

stations (Boroto & Görgens, 1999). No details are available of any water quality monitoring of water supplies<br />

provided to towns and settlements.<br />

4.12.6 Implications for water quality and quantity management<br />

No impacts on water resources are anticipated from the prospecting activities located close to the mouth of the<br />

Limpopo River.
