The Point, Boston \\MABOS\projects\11381.00\reports\Article80\ Expanded_PNF\06_Historic_FINAL.doc 6-1 Historic Resources Historic Resources This section identifies and describes historic resources in the vicinity of the Project Site and evaluates potential impacts to historic resources as a result of the Project. The Project is near the Olmsted Park System and the Sears Roebuck & Company Mail Order Store (now Landmark Center), both of which are listed in the National and State Register of Historic Places. Figure 6.1 shows the location of these resources as well as other historic resources in the general project area. The Project is designed to be compatible with the mix of uses in the surrounding area. These consist of a combination of brick residential structures built after 1930, several large residential and institutional structures (most notably Trilogy, 1330 Boylston Street, and the planned Fenway Triangle Mixed Use Project), late 20th century low-rise commercial buildings, free-standing restaurants, and surface parking lots. The varied massing, use of contemporary exterior materials, scale, proportion and setback of the proposed design are in keeping with the neighboring structures and will enhance the character of the Fenway streetscape along Boylston Street and Brookline Avenue. Summary of Key Findings The key findings related to historic and cultural resources include: There are no inventoried or State-Register listed properties within the Project Site, as the structures onsite are not of significant historical value and are generally in poor condition. Removal of the existing building will not have an adverse impact on the building, as it is not considered a significant historic resource. There are certain properties that are in the Inventory of Historic and Archaeological Assets of the Commonwealth and the State Register of Historic Places within one-quarter mile of the Project Site, including the Sears Roebuck & Company Mail Order Store, Fenway Park, and the Olmsted Park System (Emerald Necklace). No significant impacts either visually or by shadows are anticipated to these historic properties. The Project will have a beneficial effect on the immediate and surrounding area from both an aesthetic and functional standpoint. 6
