Future Actions Table 7.1: Summary of Future Actions, Priorities, Timeframes and Parties Recommendations / Future Actions Priority/ Timeframes 1 Theme 1: Data Improvement 1 Develop a data improvement programme for C&I wastes in London. This should build on the national C&I waste survey data but provide more compositional detail about those sectors where least information is available. The programme should include targeted surveys of commercial wastes that are currently described as ‘general’ and on industrial wastes to provide more information about the breakdown and quantities. Due consideration should be made as to how waste management companies could provide data on commercial and industrial wastes handled by customer type, customer size and composition. NB this links with Actions 5-8 in the Mayor’s Municipal Waste Strategy – relating to waste data reporting . 2 Carry out a survey of C&D wastes in London to provide more robust data than is currently available from the national C&D survey. The survey should include all C&D waste materials (including soft C&D wastes) and provide more information about the composition of the separate construction and demolition waste streams. 3 Monitor the number of consented hazardous waste landfill sites that become available for use – in July 2004. NB this links with Action 82 in the Mayor’s Municipal Waste Strategy – relating to planning the waste infrastructure in London. 4 Carry out an investigation into the additional types and quantities of hazardous wastes that will be generated as a result of the implementation of the new hazardous waste regulations – expected in July 2005. Use this information (with the output from action 5) in the development of a strategy to make London more self sufficient in hazardous waste processing. 5 Approach the Environment Agency for access to their inhouse database which provides information about the onsite processing of hazardous wastes in London.
