AMATEUR SCOUTING<br />

Enters his sixth season in the Tigers organization and the third full season in his current role.<br />

• Responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Tigers amateur scouting department.<br />

• Joined the Tigers as a national crosschecker following the 2007 season, a position he held until being named to<br />

his current position on August 6, 2010.<br />

• Prior to joining the Tigers organization, Pleis served as the East Coast Crosschecker with the Chicago Cubs for<br />

three years (2005-07).<br />

• Served as an area scout with the New York Yankees for 10 years (1995-2004).<br />

• A fourth round draft selection by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1981, he played two seasons in the Blue Jays<br />

organization (1981-82) and three in the St. Louis Cardinals organization (1983-85) before retiring following<br />

the 1985 season.<br />

• Pleis, 49, his wife, Lisa, and sons, Austin (10) and Brock (8) reside in St. Louis, MO.<br />

Returns to the Tigers organization as director, pro scouting, his first season in that role and 13th with the club...<br />

served the team in a variety of roles over 12 seasons (1999-2010) during his first stint with the Tigers.<br />

• Assists Scott Reid with the coordination of the club’s major league scouts, while also scouting at the major<br />

league level and assisting the organization with special assignments.<br />

• Spent the previous two seasons (2011-12) with the San Diego Padres as a Major League Scout/Special<br />

Assistant to the General Manager.<br />

• Worked nine seasons as a major league scout with the Tigers (2002-10).<br />

• Joined the Tigers scouting team as an advance scout, spending three seasons in the role (1999-2001) before<br />

being named assistant general manager prior ot the 2002 season.<br />

• Played 10 seasons at the minor league level with the Padres (1989-95), Chicago Cubs (1995) and Tigers<br />

(1996-98)...he saw action with Double A Jacksonville and Triple A Toledo in his three seasons as a player in the<br />

Tigers organization.<br />

• Bream, 42, and his wife, Shelly, have two daughters, Brooke and Mackenzie.<br />

40-YEAR-OLD TIGERS TO HIT A HOME RUN<br />

Three Tigers players have connected for a home run at the age of 40-or-older, for a total of 56 home runs. Darrell Evans<br />

leads the way with 49 home runs for the Tigers at the age of 40-or-older. The following is the list of players to hit a home run<br />
