• Saw action in 15 games for Escogido in the Dominican Winter League following the season, batting .140 (7x50) with a<br />

double and three RBI.<br />

Made his professional debut with Single A West Michigan after being selected by the Tigers in the fifth round of the June<br />

2008 draft.<br />

• Collected a season-high three hits on July 4 versus Fort Wayne -- matched the high with three hits on July 19 at<br />

Burlington and August 19 at South Bend.<br />

• Tied for 10th in the Midwest League with a .337 batting average (30x89) in 24 games during July.<br />

• Drove in a season-high four runs on August 19 at South Bend.<br />

• Batted .326 (29x89) with nine doubles, a home run and 12 RBI in 24 games during August -- seventh in the Midwest<br />

League with a .326 batting average during the month.<br />

• Played in all three of West Michigan’s games during the Midwest League playoffs, hitting .182 (2x11) with three RBI.<br />

• Named the 20th-best prospect in the Tigers organization following the season by Baseball America.<br />

He and his wife Kristina reside in Davie, FL during the off-season.<br />

• Is the son of Tigers Vice President/Assistant General Manager Al Avila.<br />

• Selected by the Tigers in the 34th round of the June 2005 draft out of Archbishop McCarthy High School in Florida, but<br />

he did not sign.<br />

• Batted .271 (55x203) with 41 runs scored, 14 doubles, five home runs and 42 RBI in 60 games as a freshman at the<br />

University of Alabama in 2006.<br />

• Played for the Ann Arbor Braves during the summer of 2006, hitting .489 with 13 home runs and 69 RBI.<br />

• Earned Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference honors as a sophomore at the University of Alabama in 2007 -- hit<br />

.296 (66x223) with 38 runs scored, 15 doubles, 14 home runs and 61 RBI in 57 games.<br />

• Saw action with Harwich in the Cape Cod League during the summer of 2007 -- batted .241 (33x137) with 15 runs<br />

scored, 11 doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI in 38 games.<br />

• A First-Team All-Southeastern Conference selection as a junior at the University of Alabama in 2008, he hit .343<br />

(82x239) with 57 runs scored, 12 doubles, 17 home runs and 62 RBI in 61 games.<br />

• Actively participates with Tigers Dreams Come True and the Detroit Tigers Autographed Memorabilia Donation<br />

Program, participated in a pre-game ceremony prior to the annual Fiesta Tigres! game, participates in Autographs for<br />

a Cause (donated funds to the Team Selfridge Family Relief Fund), regularly greets service members participating in<br />

the Detroit Tigers Game Ball Delivery program, served as a spokesman for Major League Baseball’s Father’s Day<br />

program to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation and as a celebrity scooper at the Hudsonville Creamery Detroit Ice<br />

Cream Extravaganza to benefit the Detroit Tigers Foundation, attended the Ilitch Charities Gala and participated in the<br />
