HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER<br />

Enters his 32nd season in professional baseball, 21st at the major league level and 11th with the club after being<br />

named to his current position on October 15, 2002.<br />

• Directs the efforts of the organization’s major and minor league medical and conditioning personnel.<br />

• Joined Tigers Assistant Athletic Trainers Steve Carter and Doug Teter in being named the Athletic Training Staff<br />

of the Year in 2006 by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainer’s Society (PBATS).<br />

• Served as the head athletic trainer for the American League All-Star team during the 2005 All-Star Game at<br />

Comerica Park on July 12, 2005.<br />

• Spent the 2002 season as the assistant athletic trainer for the Montreal Expos after spending the previous nine<br />

seasons in the same position with the Florida Marlins.<br />

• Prior to joining the Marlins on November 20, 1992, he spent 11 years in the New York Yankees organization,<br />

including the last four (1989-92) as the minor league head athletic trainer/rehabilitation supervisor.<br />

• Served as head athletic trainer with Triple A Columbus from 1986-88 after being promoted from his previous<br />

position as head athletic trainer at Double A Albany where he spent the 1985 season.<br />

• Began his career serving as the head athletic trainer for the Single A Ft. Lauderdale Yankees from 1982-84.<br />

• Inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame on July 29, 2007.<br />

• Served as the National League’s assistant athletic trainer representative for PBATS from 1998-2001...served as<br />

the American League head athletic trainer representative from 2004-09.<br />

• A 1981 graduate of Bowdoin College in Maine, Rand is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers<br />

Association (NATA) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), in addition to being an<br />

NSCA certified personal trainer.<br />

• Leads the annual PLAY (Promoting a Lifetime of Activity among Youth) Campaign.<br />

• Rand and his wife, Tisa, reside in Lakeland, FL with their sons, Keegan (1/21/97), Kamden (6/24/98), Kallen<br />

(11/10/00) and Kashton (2/12/03).<br />

Enters his 19th season as the club’s assistant athletic trainer and his 25th as a trainer in the Tigers organization.<br />

• Joined the big league club in his current position prior to the 1995 season.<br />

• Joined Tigers Head Athletic Trainer Kevin Rand and Assistant Athletic Trainer Doug Teter in being named the<br />

Athletic Training Staff of the Year in 2006 by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainer’s Society (PBATS).<br />

• Served as the assistant athletic trainer for the American League All-Star team during the 2005 All-Star Game<br />

at Comerica Park on July 12, 2005.<br />

• Served as an American League assistant trainer representative on the executive board of PBATS from 2006-10.<br />

• Was head athletic trainer for six seasons with three Tigers affiliates, including Single A Fayetteville (1989-90),<br />

Single A Lakeland (1991-92) and Triple A Toledo (1993-94).<br />

• Served as athletic trainer and taught biology at Evansville Central High School in Evansville, IN from 1986-89.<br />

• Graduated from Indiana University in 1986 with a degree in health education/athletic training...played for the<br />

school’s rugby team.<br />

• 53 years old...is a native of Elkhart, IN.<br />

• Carter and his wife, Tari, reside in Washington Township, MI...they have six children, Joshua (2/2/84), Jeremy<br />

(5/28/86), Jacob (4/17/89), Jesse (5/13/90), Delaney (10/8/90) and Sean (12/12/92).<br />
