<strong>2013</strong> TIGERS<br />

• Hit .352 (32x91) with 12 runs scored, six doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI in 25 games during July -- finished 10th<br />

in the National League with a .433 on-base percentage during the month, while he tied for 11th with 21 RBI and<br />

finished 12th with a .352 batting average.<br />

• Batted .337 (32x95) in 26 games during August, scoring 21 runs and collecting six doubles, five home runs and 15 RBI.<br />

• Batted .302 (144x477) against righthanded pitchers...hit .262 (33x126) with lefties on the mound.<br />

• Hit .303 (93x307) in 81 games on the road...batted .284 (84x296) in 79 games at home.<br />

• Tied for third among all National League outfielders with 13 assists.<br />

• Named to Baseball America’s winter all-star squad following the season after hitting .398 (49x123) with 12 home runs<br />

and 42 RBI for Aragua in the Venezuelan Winter League.<br />

Joined the Marlins for his first major league action after having his contract purchased from Double A Carolina on June<br />

20, 2003...led all National League rookies with a .468 slugging percentage, while he finished second with 12 home runs<br />

and 62 RBI and tied for fourth with 36 extra-base hits.<br />

• Batted .365 with 10 home runs and 59 RBI in 69 games with Carolina before having his contract purchased by the<br />

Marlins on June 20...was leading the Southern League with 97 hits, 29 doubles, 42 extra-base hits, 59 RBI and a .609<br />

slugging percentage at the time of his promotion, while he was second with a .365 batting average.<br />

• Tabbed the most exciting player, best batting prospect and best defensive third baseman and rated as possessing the<br />

best strike-zone judgement and best infield arm in the Southern League by Baseball America...named the top prospect<br />

in the Southern League following the season by Baseball America.<br />

• Earned Southern League Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks, April 18-24 and April 25-May 1...in seven<br />

games April 18-24, he hit .517 (15x29) with seven runs scored, seven doubles, a triple and 11 RBI...in six games April<br />

25-May 1, he batted .500 (12x24) with six runs scored, three doubles, two home runs and seven RBI.<br />

• Posted a 15-game hitting streak April 22-May 8, batting .491 (28x57) with 14 runs scored, nine doubles, three home<br />

runs and 15 RBI.<br />

• Made his major league debut on June 20 versus Tampa Bay -- belted a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the<br />

11th inning against Al Levine for his first major league hit...became just the third player since 1900 to hit a walk-off home<br />

run in his major league debut, joining California’s Billy Parker (September 9, 1971 versus Milwaukee) and Cleveland’s<br />

Josh Bard (August 23, 2002 versus Seattle)...according to David Vincent, Cabrera (20 years, 63 days old) became the<br />

sixth-youngest player to homer in his debut: Louisville’s (American Association) Scott Stratton (18 years, 21 days on<br />

April 21, 1888), Whitey Lockman of the New York Giants (18 years, 345 days on July 5, 1945), Detroit’s Denny McLain<br />

(19 years, 176 days on September 21, 1963), Cincinnati’s Ted Tappe (19 years, 224 days on September 14, 1950) and<br />

Kansas City’s Clint Hurdle (20 years, 50 days on September 18, 1977) were the five younger players.<br />

• Established a career high with two home runs on July 1 versus Atlanta -- finished with four extra-base hits in the game<br />

to be<strong>com</strong>e the second Marlins player in franchise history to ac<strong>com</strong>plish the feat, joining Gary Sheffield (April 10, 1994<br />

at San Diego).<br />

• Selected the National League Rookie of the Month for July after hitting .318 (27x85) with 16 runs scored, eight<br />

doubles, five home runs and 21 RBI in 24 games.<br />

• Earned National League Rookie of the Month honors for a second time in September -- batted .308 (28x91) with 12<br />

runs scored, nine doubles, three home runs and 20 RBI in 26 games during the month...tied for fourth in the National<br />

League with nine doubles during the month, while he tied for seventh with 20 RBI.<br />

• Fared better against lefthanded pitchers, hitting .364 (20x55)...batted .247 (64x259) with righties on the mound.<br />

• Hit .375 (36x96) with runners in scoring position.<br />

• Collected four hits in Game Four of the National League Division Series on October 4 versus San Francisco -- matched<br />

a major league post-season record for hits in a single game by a rookie, joining Freddie Lindstrom of the New York<br />

Giants (Game Five of the 1924 World Series), Joe Garagiola of St. Louis (Game Four of the 1946 World Series), Chad<br />

Fonville of the Los Angeles Dodgers (Game Two of the 1995 National League Division Series) and Derek Jeter of the<br />

New York Yankees (Game One of the 1996 American League Championship Series).<br />

• Belted his first career post-season home run in Game One of the National League Championship Series on October 7<br />

at Chicago’s Wrigley Field against the Cubs, a solo shot in the third inning off Carlos Zambrano -- at 20 years, 182 days<br />

old, he became the second-youngest player in major league history to homer during the post-season (Andruw Jones<br />

on October 17, 1996 in Game Seven of the National League Championship Series versus St. Louis at 19 years, 178<br />

days old).<br />

• Hit .327 with four home runs and 11 RBI in 15 games with Aragua in the Venezuelan Winter League following the<br />

season...saw action with Aragua during the league’s playoffs, batting .288 with seven home runs and 15 RBI in 20<br />

games...hit .333 (8x24) with three doubles, a triple and two RBI for Venezuela during the Caribbean Series.<br />

Led the Florida State League with 43 doubles for Single A Jupiter during the 2002 season, while he finished third with 53<br />

extra-base hits.<br />
