HALL OF FAMERS TO HAVE WORN A DETROIT TIGERS UNIFORM<br />

A total of 28 former Detroit Tigers players, managers and executives have earned enshrinement into the National Baseball Hall of<br />

Fame and Museum, including 2010 Veterans Committee electee Whitey Herzog, who played the Tigers during the last year of his<br />

career in 1963. Ten of these 28 spent the majority of their careers in a Tigers uniform including: Sparky Anderson, Jim Bunning, Ty<br />

Cobb, Sam Crawford, Charlie Gehringer, Hank Greenberg, Harry Heilmann, Al Kaline, George Kell and Hal Newhouser. For a<br />

NOTABLE TIGERS ARTIFACTS AT THE HALL<br />

• Jersey worn by Cy Young and MVP Award winner Justin Verlander during his 20th win of the season on August 27, 2011.<br />

• Ball from Justin Verlander’s second career no-hit game on May 7, 2011.<br />

• Spikes worn by Armando Galarraga and the first base bag from his June 2, 2010 near-perfect game against the Indians.<br />

• Helmet worn by Miguel Cabrera during the 2009 World Baseball Classic with Team Venezuela.<br />

• Jersey worn by Curtis Granderson on September 9, 2007, when he stole his 20th base of the season, making him the third<br />

player in history to hit at least 20 doubles, triples and home runs while also stealing 20 bases.<br />

• Glove used by Placido Polanco record-setting 2007 season, in which he played 141 games at second without an error.<br />

• Ball from Justin Verlander’s no-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers on June 12, 2007, the sixth no-hitter in Tigers’ history and<br />

first at Comerica Park.<br />

• Bat used by 2006 ALCS MVP Placido Polanco throughout the series.<br />

• Bat used by Magglio Ordonez to hit the game-winning, series-clinching, walk-off home run in Game Four of the 2006 ALCS.<br />

• Cap worn by Brian Moehler when he started and won the first game in Comerica Park on April 11, 2000.<br />

• Second base from Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker’s final game together at Tiger Stadium in 1999.<br />

• Lineup card and cap worn by manager Sparky Anderson on April 15, 1993, when he earned his 2,000th career victory.<br />

• Jersey and cap worn by Al Kaline.<br />

• Wool team sweater worn by Ty Cobb.<br />

Ballots for the 2014 Hall of Fame/BBWAA election will be distributed in early December with results from the voting scheduled to be<br />

announced in January 2014. A partial list of first-year candidates for election include: Moises Alou, Eric Gagne, Tom Glavine, Greg<br />

Maddux, Mike Mussina, Hideo Nomo, Jeff Kent and Frank Thomas. Historical <strong>information</strong> on past BBWAA elections and the election<br />
