<strong>2013</strong> TIGERS<br />

the Tigers -- is the first Tigers player with back-to-back seasons of 40-or-more doubles since Hank Greenberg did so<br />

for the club in 1939 and 1940.<br />

• Finished with 335 total bases for the Tigers, marking the fourth straight season he surpassed 300 total bases for the<br />

club -- became just the second player in franchise history to surpass 300 total bases in at least four straight seasons...<br />

Hank Greenberg is the other Tigers player to do so, ac<strong>com</strong>plishing the feat in four straight seasons (1937-40).<br />

• His .448 on-base percentage marked the higest on-base percentage by a Tigers player since Norm Cash finished the<br />

1961 season with a .487 on-base percentage -- his on-base percentage was the highest by a Tigers righthanded hitter<br />

since Harry Heilmann posted a .475 on-base percentage in 1927.<br />

• Second among all American League first basemen with 1,379 total chances, 1,263 putouts and 103 assists...led all<br />

league first basemen with 13 errors.<br />

• Won the Walter “Buck” Leonard Award from the Negro League Baseball Museum as the American League’s batting<br />

champion.<br />

• Selected as the Luis Aparicio Award winner as Venezuela’s top major league player.<br />

• Tabbed the second-best hitter and rated as possessing the second-best strike-zone judgement in the American League<br />

by Baseball America, while he and Texas’ Josh Hamilton were tied for having the second-best power in the league<br />

according to the publication.<br />

• Belted a season-high two home runs on April 3 at New York’s Yankee Stadium -- equaled the high with two home runs<br />

on June 29 versus the New York Mets.<br />

• Collected the 300th double of his career on April 11 versus Texas -- according to STATS LLC, he became the first major<br />

league player since at least 1946 to reach 300 doubles prior to turning 28 years old.<br />

• Tabbed the Tigers Player of the Month for March/April after hitting .333 (32x96) with eight doubles, seven home runs<br />

and 19 RBI in 27 games -- scored 24 runs during that stretch to mark the most runs scored by a Tigers player prior to<br />

May 1 since at least 1946.<br />

• Posted a 12-game hitting streak May 18-30, batting .333 (15x45) with five doubles, three home runs and nine RBI.<br />

• Selected the Tigers Player of the Month for June after batting .376 (35x93) with four doubles, seven home runs and 19<br />

RBI in 28 games -- led the American League with a .496 on-base percentage during the month, while he finished fourth<br />

with a .376 batting average, sixth with 35 hits and a .645 slugging percentage and tied for eighth with seven home runs.<br />

• Collected the 1,500th hit of his major league career on July 15 versus the Chicago White Sox, a single in the fifth inning<br />

off Gavin Floyd.<br />

• Recorded a season-high 17-game hitting streak August 2-20, batting .380 (27x71) with seven doubles, a home run and<br />

13 RBI.<br />

• Hit .450 (18x40) with six doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI over the course of a 10-game hitting streak August 26-<br />

September 4.<br />

• Batted .390 (41x105) with 11 doubles, two home runs and 16 RBI in 27 games during August -- tied for the lead in the<br />

American League with 41 hits, while he tied for second with 11 doubles, finished third with a .390 batting average and<br />

fifth with a .454 on-base percentage.<br />

• Drove in a run in a season-high seven straight games September 1-7, totaling 11 RBI.<br />

• Tabbed the Tigers Player of the Month for September after hitting .429 (39x91) with 12 doubles, six home runs and 21<br />

RBI in 26 games during the month -- led the American League with a .532 on-base percentage during the month, while<br />

he tied for the lead with a .429 batting average and 12 doubles, finished second with 39 hits, third with a .758 slugging<br />

percentage, tied for fifth with 21 RBI and tied for 10th with six home runs.<br />

• Batted .353 (152x431) versus righthanded pitchers -- tops among all American League players...hit .319 (45x141) with<br />

lefties on the mound.<br />

• Hit .311 (98x315) with 21 doubles, 18 home runs and 59 RBI in 92 games prior to the all-star break...batted .385<br />

(99x257) with 27 doubles, 12 home runs and 46 RBI in 69 games following the all-star break.<br />

• Batted .388 (57x147) with runners in scoring position, second-best in the American League.<br />

• Finished with three hits, including a home run, and three RBI in Game Two of the American League Division Series on<br />

October 2 at New York’s Yankee Stadium -- became the fifth player in Tigers history to collect at least three hits, a home<br />

run and three RBI during a post-season game...joined Hank Greenberg (Game Five of 1940 World Series), Al Kaline<br />

(Game Six of 1968 World Series), Alan Trammell (Game One of 1984 American League Championship Series and<br />

Game Four of 1984 World Series) and Kirk Gibson (Game Five of 1984 World Series) in ac<strong>com</strong>plishing the feat.<br />

• Belted two home runs in Game Six of the American League Championship Series on October 15 at Texas to match the<br />

Tigers single-game post-season record for home runs -- marked the fifth time in franchise history a Tigers player has<br />

hit two home runs during a post-season game...he joined Alan Trammell (Game Four of 1984 World Series), Kirk<br />

Gibson (Game Five of 1984 World Series), Magglio Ordonez (Game Four of 2006 American League Championship<br />

Series) and Delmon Young (Game Five of 2011 American League Championship Series) in ac<strong>com</strong>plishing the feat.<br />

• Finished with seven RBI during the American League Championship Series, marking the most RBI collected by a Tigers<br />
