The <strong>2013</strong> season will mark Cabrera’s sixth season with the Tigers...marks the fifth year of a seven-year contract he<br />

agreed to terms on with the club on March 25, 2008.<br />

• Selected the American League Most Valuable Player in 2012 -- became the eighth player in Tigers history to earn the<br />

honor...joined Mickey Cochrane (1934), Hank Greenberg (1935, 1940), Charlie Gehringer (1937), Hal Newhouser<br />

(1944, 1945), Denny McLain (1968), Willie Hernandez (1984) and Justin Verlander (2011) in ac<strong>com</strong>plishing the feat...<br />

Cabrera is the first native of Venezuela to be named the Most Valuable Player.<br />

• Four-time National League all-star selection with the Florida Marlins (2004-07)...three-time American League all-star<br />

selection with the Tigers (2010-12).<br />

• Won two National League Silver Slugger Awards with the Marlins (2005-06)...won two American League Silver Slugger<br />

Awards with the Tigers (2010, 2012).<br />

• Earned American League Player of the Month honors in July of 2008 and August of 2012.<br />

• Selected American League Player of the Week six times during his career, while he has earned National League<br />

Player of the Week honors four times.<br />

• Tabbed the National League Rookie of the Month with the Marlins in both July and September of 2003.<br />

the first player to win the Triple Crown since Boston’s Carl Yastrzemski did so in 1967...it marked the 14th time since<br />

• Led the American League with a .344 batting average for the Tigers in 2011 -- first Tigers player to lead the league in<br />

batting average since Magglio Ordonez did so with a .363 batting average in 2007...became the 10th different player<br />

in franchise history to lead the league in batting average...marked the 24th time overall a Tigers player has led the<br />

league in batting average.<br />

• Captured the American League batting title in both 2011 and 2012 to be<strong>com</strong>e the first Tigers player to lead the league<br />

in hitting in consecutive seasons since Ty Cobb did so in three straight seasons (1917-19).<br />

• Led the American League with 126 RBI for the Tigers in 2010 -- first Tigers player to lead the league in RBI since Cecil<br />

Fielder did so with 124 RBI in 1992...became the eighth different player in franchise history to lead the league in RBI<br />

...marked the 19th time overall a Tigers player has led the league in RBI.<br />

• Led the American League with 37 home runs for the Tigers in 2008 -- first Tigers player to lead the league in home runs<br />

since Cecil Fielder tied for the lead with 44 home runs in 1991...became the seventh different player in franchise<br />

history to lead the league in home runs...marked the 10th time overall a Tigers player has led the league in home runs.<br />

• Has led the American League in batting average (2011, 2012), home runs (2008, 2012) and RBI (2010, 2012) during<br />
