tion, technical upgrades of <strong>the</strong> WWTPs (with <strong>the</strong> goal of reducing <strong>the</strong> effluent loads of nutrient<br />

according to <strong>the</strong> Water Environment Action Plan) which was launched by <strong>the</strong> Danish parliament<br />

(cf. Annex 3E) may result in an increased emission from anaerobic treatment processes. Based on<br />

<strong>the</strong> above figures, on average 50% of <strong>the</strong> methane potential are combusted through out <strong>the</strong> period<br />

1990-2003. The decrease in <strong>the</strong> internal combustion is accompanied by a parallel increase in <strong>the</strong><br />

external combustion and combustion processes included in <strong>the</strong> production and reuse of sludge in<br />

sandblasting products.<br />

The emission of N 2 O by wastewater handling is calculated as a sum of contributions from wastewater<br />

treatment processes at <strong>the</strong> WWTPs and from sewage effluents. Emissions from effluent<br />

wastewater are derived from registered activity data of effluent wastewater nitrogen loads from<br />

point sources as given in Table 8.13, which includes a summary of <strong>the</strong> results of <strong>the</strong> N 2 O estimation.<br />
