Archaeology Sindh Minister for Culture and<br />
Tourism Sassui Palijo on Saturday inaugurated<br />
the excavation work of Lakhen Jo Daro in<br />
Sukkur. Addressing a ceremony, she said the<br />
Sindh government has established the<br />
Archaeology Board to promote culture and<br />
archaeological sites of Sindh. She said the Sindh<br />
government has allocated Rs one million for<br />
each district for archaeological sites.<br />

PALESTIINE<br />
Archaeology The Hamas-run ministry of<br />
tourism and antiquities in Gaza on Monday<br />
announced the discovery of ancient artifacts<br />
near the Egyptian border town of Rafah. "The<br />
most important of the findings are 1,300 antique<br />
silver coins, both large and small," said<br />
Mohammed al-Agha, tourism and antiquities<br />
minister in the Islamist-run government. He said<br />
archaeologists had also uncovered a black basalt<br />
grinder, a coin with a cross etched on it, and the<br />
remains of walls and arches believed to have<br />
been built in 320 BC.<br />

SAUDII ARABIIA<br />
Archaeology A 7 th century village has been<br />
unearthed in the Al-Raaka district of Dammam<br />
near the shores of the Arabian Gulf, the<br />
Supreme Commission for Tourism and<br />
Antiquities announced Monday. Researchers say<br />
the village has been dated to the early Muslim<br />
era. “From the materials that we have<br />
discovered at the site, such as ceramic pottery<br />
and other artifacts, it is quite easy to ascertain<br />
the period to which they belong,” said Dr. Ali I.<br />
Al-Ghabban, deputy secretary-general for<br />
antiquities and museums.<br />

SYRIIA<br />
Archaeology The Syrian National Excavation<br />
Expedition working at Tal al-Kasara<br />
archaeological site in Deir Ezzor Province<br />
(Northeastern Syria) discovered a 44-meter long<br />
mosaic painting. The painting was found in the<br />
cool hall of a bathhouse at the site. It is the first<br />
of its kind that was discovered in the Middle<br />
Euphrates Region and it represents geometric<br />
shapes and fishes with opposite heads. The site<br />
was discovered by the British expedition for the<br />
first time in 1849 and a survey was conducted<br />
during the French mandate.<br />

Archaeology Cemeteries, public baths and<br />
archaeological discoveries were discovered in<br />
Daraa city (Southern Syria), all of which were<br />
documented in order to trace the actual era and<br />
the successive civilizations of this area. Head of<br />
Bosra's Antiquities Department, Wafa al-Audi<br />
said that an ancient tomb was unearthed in a<br />
house for a citizen in Daraa dating back to<br />
Byzantine Era where three copper bracelets, an<br />
iron one in addition to some shards. Other four<br />
tombs with basaltic ground and a stone gate<br />
were also found at the same site.<br />
