<strong>Against</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Wind</strong><br />

Nordhausen <strong>and</strong> had opened <strong>the</strong> door for fur<strong>the</strong>r meetings in Baptist circles in<br />

Saxony. What motivated him <strong>and</strong> what he heard from <strong>Eberhard</strong> came from one<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> same source. “The world is crying out for acts, not tracts,” Adolf Braun<br />

wrote in his invitation to a June 1924 conference: 34 “It is not important that we<br />

know a lot or that we organize <strong>and</strong> achieve a lot – <strong>the</strong> motivating power is what<br />

counts.”<br />

<strong>Eberhard</strong> spoke at this conference too. 35 The main part of his seech, however,<br />

consisted of readings from <strong>the</strong> old Hutterian confessions of faith <strong>and</strong> from directives<br />

for church order. 36 Afterwards Adolf <strong>and</strong> Martha Braun accompanied <strong>the</strong> guest<br />

seaker back to Sannerz. Then <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>re <strong>the</strong>y decided to join <strong>the</strong> community, <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>y moved to Sannerz with <strong>the</strong>ir two little girls in 1924. 37 The Brauns were <strong>the</strong><br />

first family to join <strong>the</strong> community after <strong>the</strong> 1922 crisis.<br />
