<strong>The</strong> draught <strong>of</strong> ane address from <strong>the</strong> parliament to <strong>the</strong> King's<br />

Majestie against <strong>the</strong> late Earle <strong>of</strong> Argyle, being read, <strong>the</strong> consideration<br />

<strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong> continued untill to morrow.<br />

<strong>The</strong> endytment <strong>of</strong> treason against <strong>the</strong> Lairds <strong>of</strong> Cessnock, elder and<br />

younger, being called, and <strong>the</strong> pannalls being brought to <strong>the</strong> barr, and<br />

compearing with <strong>the</strong>ir advocats, after <strong>the</strong> lybell was read <strong>the</strong>y gave<br />

in <strong>the</strong>ir defences, which being read his Majestie's Advocat declared he<br />

insisted on <strong>the</strong> second article <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lybell anent <strong>the</strong> pannells accession<br />

to <strong>the</strong> conspiracie being art and part <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong>, and concealing and not<br />

revealing <strong>the</strong> same ; which being considered, that article <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lybell<br />

was found relivant, notwithstanding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> defences proponed against<br />

<strong>the</strong> same which were repealed.<br />

Ane Act being brought in in favours <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Royall Burrows and read^<br />

it was remitted to <strong>the</strong> Earle <strong>of</strong> Tweeddale, <strong>the</strong> Lord Tarbet, <strong>the</strong><br />

President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Session, Sir George Lockhart and any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Commissionej'S<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> burrows that pleases, to meet and adjust that Act ta<br />

be brought in againe to <strong>the</strong> Lords <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Articles to morrow.<br />

Ane Act for encouraging <strong>of</strong> fishing, being read, laid asyde.<br />

Ane Act anent measuring <strong>of</strong> myles, being read, agreed to be past.<br />

<strong>His</strong> Majestie's Advocat having proposed that Sir George Lockhart<br />

may be ordered to assist him in debating <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> process <strong>of</strong> treason,<br />

depending before <strong>the</strong> parliament, against <strong>the</strong> Lairds <strong>of</strong> Cessnock, elder<br />

and younger, it being <strong>of</strong> importance ; and Sir George, having alledged<br />

that he could not plead for or against any partie conveened before <strong>the</strong><br />

parliament, in regard he is a member <strong>of</strong> parliament, and does represent<br />

a shire, for whom he is commissioner, and <strong>the</strong> said Sir George being<br />

removed, <strong>the</strong> Lords <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Articles repelled <strong>the</strong> alledgeance proponed<br />

by him, and found that he may be appointed to assist his Majestie's<br />

Advocat in this process, likeas <strong>the</strong> Lord Commissioners <strong>Grace</strong> in his<br />

Majestie's name did comrriand <strong>the</strong> said Sir George upon his alledgeance<br />

to concurr with <strong>the</strong> Advocat in <strong>the</strong> foresaid process.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Lairds <strong>of</strong> Cessnock, elder and younger, being called, after debate<br />

some interlocutours were given as <strong>the</strong> mi nuts <strong>of</strong> process beares.<br />

<strong>The</strong> address <strong>of</strong> his Majestie against <strong>the</strong> late Earle <strong>of</strong> Argyle, being<br />

againe read and amended, was approven to be brought in to <strong>the</strong> parliament.<br />

Ane Act anent escheits <strong>of</strong> persones denounced for fanaticall disorders<br />

being read was voted and past to be <strong>of</strong>fered to <strong>the</strong> parliament.<br />

12 June 1685.<br />

<strong>The</strong> proces betwixt Abden and Pitravie remitted to <strong>the</strong> Lords <strong>of</strong><br />

Session to be determined by <strong>the</strong>m, notwithstanding <strong>of</strong> any dependence<br />

before <strong>the</strong> parliament.<br />

Ane Act for weighing <strong>of</strong> bear and male being read, <strong>the</strong> materials <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Act was aproven, and his Majestie's Commissioner did nominat <strong>the</strong><br />

Earle <strong>of</strong> ErroU, <strong>the</strong> Bishop <strong>of</strong> Edinburgh, Sir George Lockhart, Sir<br />

William Bruce, <strong>the</strong> commissioners for AlDerdeen and Linlithgow, to<br />

meet and to adjust any thing to be fur<strong>the</strong>r done in that affaire, and to<br />

consider any proclamations <strong>of</strong> Councill relating <strong>the</strong>reto, and also anent<br />

<strong>the</strong> making <strong>of</strong> malt, and to report.
