84. I urot nothinge last night by <strong>the</strong> ordinary post,<br />

fearinge, but ui<strong>the</strong> too great caus, I showld haw occation<br />

this night by a flyeinge paket ; his Majesty still growinge<br />

wors and wors, my affliction owerwhelmed me. I stayed<br />

ui<strong>the</strong> him from 3 in <strong>the</strong> afternone yisterday till uithin a quarter<br />

<strong>of</strong> 12 a'clok this day, that it pleased God to call him, and change<br />

his earthly diadem for a crowne <strong>of</strong> eternall glory, to <strong>the</strong> unspelvable<br />

grife and astonishment <strong>of</strong> all his good subjects, and to non<br />

more <strong>the</strong>n my sorrowfull self ; but lett us reioice that God hes<br />

blest us ui<strong>the</strong> so excellent a prince as our Gracious Soverange<br />

that now is, uho was this afternone proclamed throw <strong>the</strong> cittie<br />

<strong>of</strong> London, and at Whythall Gate, ui<strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong> accustomed<br />

solemnetyes. You uill haue sutch commands as his Majesty<br />

thought fitt on this occation from Ld. Lundin, uho is in<br />

uaetinge, by this paket. I am not able to uryt mor to your<br />

<strong>Grace</strong>, uhat ui<strong>the</strong> griefe, toile, and ouerwaeking.<br />

85. Since my last I spoke to his Majesty to know his pleasur<br />

about <strong>the</strong> Keniwinge <strong>of</strong> all Commisions civill and military, and<br />

uhi<strong>the</strong>r he designed any alteration ; he tould me he uould haue<br />

no change, but that new Comisions showld be giwin to all as th [e] y<br />

uear established befor <strong>the</strong> dea<strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong> his late Majesty <strong>of</strong> blessed<br />

memory, and so gaue me orders for prepaeringe <strong>the</strong>m uhich shall<br />

be done ui<strong>the</strong> all possible diligence. Tho' it uill take a considerable<br />

time to finishe <strong>the</strong>m, I uas at thre hours paens yisterday<br />

searchinge all our Records for <strong>the</strong> last Commisione granted to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Lords <strong>of</strong> Sessione, but could finde nothinge lyk it. I haue<br />

urytin to my Lord Chancellor to caus send up a coppye <strong>of</strong> it as<br />

sone as possible uhich I intreat your <strong>Grace</strong> uill order to be done.<br />

Yisterday morninge <strong>the</strong> Kinge caled a Councill, uhaer Prince<br />

George <strong>of</strong> Denmark uas reseaved at <strong>the</strong> board, and <strong>the</strong> Councill<br />

<strong>the</strong>rafter uaeted on him in a body. <strong>The</strong>r uas also a warrand<br />

isswed by <strong>the</strong> King ui<strong>the</strong> advice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Councill for collectinge<br />

<strong>the</strong> customs, tunadge and powndige accordinge to <strong>the</strong> former<br />

presedints in Kinge James and King Charles <strong>the</strong> First's<br />

time. <strong>The</strong>n his Majesty declaer'd he resolved to call a<br />

Parlament to meet hear agaenst <strong>the</strong> begininge <strong>of</strong> May, and that<br />

he uould giue <strong>the</strong> necessary orders about it to <strong>the</strong> Lord Keper.<br />

<strong>His</strong> Majesty's gracious spetch at his first metinge ui<strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Councill is now printed, uhar<strong>of</strong> I send you on inclosed. It hes<br />

giuen great satisfaction to all and occationed ane vniversall joye<br />

in <strong>the</strong> citty. <strong>The</strong> printis inclosed uill informe you more<br />

particularly.<br />

Postscript :—<strong>The</strong>r is a letter to <strong>the</strong>r Lordships <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Secret<br />

Commity by <strong>the</strong> King's command, signed by us both, for<br />

advice conserning <strong>the</strong> calinge <strong>of</strong> a Parliament, uhich I need not<br />

repeat since you uill sie it so sudingly.
