86. " <strong>The</strong> flyeinge paket dated fromEdinb[urgh] on Setirday<br />

last at eight a'clok at night came to my hand yisterday at eight<br />

in <strong>the</strong> morning. I uent emediatly to <strong>the</strong> Kinge and gawe him <strong>the</strong><br />

two books directed to <strong>the</strong> late King and himself conserninge <strong>the</strong><br />

discoverys <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late conspiracy, and it is now reprinting hear<br />

by his Majesty's command. I also rede to him yom* Lordships<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Secret Commity's letter, to uhich he sayd <strong>the</strong>r uas no<br />

returne to be giuen untill an ansswer come from you to uhat Lord<br />

Lundin and I urot by last post, by <strong>the</strong> King's command conserninge<br />

<strong>the</strong> Parlament. When <strong>the</strong> bussines <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Acte <strong>of</strong> Lidemnety<br />

uas ajusted, I uas verry ill and not able to goe abroad for a uhol<br />

week ; but <strong>the</strong> Kinge desired E. Middleton and Lord Lundin to<br />

com to me, uhich th[e]y did."<br />

<strong>The</strong>re would now be time enough to set it right to Queensberry's<br />

liking, and if he acquainted Moray with his mind and<br />

reasons, he would do his best when it came under consideration.<br />

" As to <strong>the</strong> Lords <strong>of</strong> Session's letter it uas never delyver'd to <strong>the</strong><br />

late Kinge, nor doe I know that ever <strong>the</strong> originall letter uas<br />

opined. <strong>The</strong>r hes bine no roume for privat bussines since <strong>the</strong><br />

late King fell seeke. So sone as it coms to be spokin <strong>of</strong>, I shall<br />

giue your <strong>Grace</strong> ane account."<br />

87. <strong>The</strong> honor <strong>of</strong> yours I reseaved by <strong>the</strong> flyeinge paket on<br />

Sunday morninge. It is great joye to all loyall good men to<br />

hear <strong>the</strong> acceptable news <strong>of</strong> our graciousjiing's beinge proclamed<br />

ui<strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong> just and diwtefull acclamations <strong>of</strong> his good subjects.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Kinge is verry sensible <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> good service <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Councill<br />

and <strong>the</strong>r zeall upon this, as ueall as all o<strong>the</strong>r occations, to promote<br />

<strong>the</strong> great and just rights <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Crowne. When your commands<br />

coms by <strong>the</strong> express you intend to send up, he shall find all <strong>the</strong><br />

fa<strong>the</strong>full indevors in my power to serve you, in servinge our good<br />

King. I can not yit tell you uhat may be resolved conserninge<br />

<strong>the</strong> Commisioner to <strong>the</strong> Parlament. I know non so fitt as your<br />

self, and I resolve verry speedily to be free ui<strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kinge upon<br />

it, tho' I doubt not <strong>the</strong>r are indevors used, uhich from severall<br />

resons, I haw caus to suspek, and shall be urytin to you from<br />

ane o<strong>the</strong>r hand. This is <strong>of</strong> great import to his Majesty's service;<br />

God directe him in it, I shall not faell to doe my paert ui<strong>the</strong> submisione.<br />

I haue tould your <strong>Grace</strong> formerly that <strong>the</strong> Lords <strong>of</strong> Session's<br />

letter conserninge <strong>the</strong> Duttches and E. Lawderdel's bussines<br />

uas never delyverd to <strong>the</strong> late King, and <strong>the</strong>r is yit no roume" for<br />

privat affaers ; so that I judge it may be yit ten or tuelf days<br />

befor I can giwe you any resonable account <strong>of</strong><br />

As to matters hear, blessed be God, all things relaetinge to his<br />

Majesty's service goe verry ueall and calmly on, and I doubt not<br />

shall continow so. <strong>The</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Grine Clo<strong>the</strong>, <strong>the</strong><br />

Chamberlin, viz*.—Chamberline, Tressurer, and Controuler <strong>of</strong><br />

it.
