Sir, I had yours <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ij , and acquented <strong>the</strong> King ui<strong>the</strong> your<br />

desire <strong>of</strong> haueing leaw to com up : and am commanded to returne<br />

you this ansswer—That, when you haw made your applicatione to<br />

his Commisioner, and by his favorable representatione is restored<br />

to your place in Cowncill, his Majestie will allow you to com up,<br />

but by no means befor that time.<br />

Now, I shall say from my self, as your freind and wealwisher,<br />

that I am sorry you haw not befor this time addresed your self<br />

to <strong>the</strong> Commisioner, who, I daer confidently say, would very<br />

genorusly reseave it, and recommend you respectfully to his<br />

Majestie. It is from verry kynd inclinations touards you that I<br />

taek this fredome, and doe me <strong>the</strong> justice to beleve.<br />

100. <strong>The</strong> flyeing paket caem this morning about 9 a cloke,<br />

just as <strong>the</strong> Kinge uent to chapile ; and as he came from<br />

it, betuixt tuelfe and on, I uaeted on him ; but beinge <strong>the</strong>n<br />

goinge to dinner he appointed Ld. Lundin and me to uaet<br />

on him at fyife a clok at night, uhich uee did accordingly, Lord<br />

Lundin comeing <strong>the</strong>n in uaeting. <strong>The</strong> letter from <strong>the</strong> Secret<br />

Commity, and <strong>the</strong> Acts apaert near rede : <strong>the</strong>n my college<br />

begune to debaet on every on <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m, and bo<strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong> us beinge<br />

alike uarme upon <strong>the</strong> matter, he sayd uhat he desired uas no<br />

mor but that <strong>the</strong> acts might rune according to <strong>the</strong> Instructions<br />

signed by his Majesty, and agred upon by all <strong>of</strong> us uhen you near<br />

Instructions. As to <strong>the</strong> Acte conserninge religion, I tould him<br />

that uhat now you had sent uas <strong>the</strong> same in matter and senss<br />

ui<strong>the</strong> that he past himself, levinge out <strong>the</strong> words uhar<strong>of</strong> I<br />

acquented you in my former, and contaend in <strong>the</strong> King's owne<br />

letter to your <strong>Grace</strong>. Uithall I tould him this flyeing paket caem<br />

auay befor you reseaved his Majesty's last orders conserninge<br />

that Acte, uhich I uas sure you uould punctually observe. So <strong>the</strong><br />

King concluded he uould haw that act in <strong>the</strong> express words <strong>of</strong><br />

that past when himself uas Commisioner, leavinge out <strong>the</strong><br />

raetefieing <strong>of</strong> all laws agaenst Popry, as it is exprest on <strong>the</strong><br />

bottom <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Acte sent up and now returned. I see <strong>the</strong>r uill be
