95. After a great deall <strong>of</strong> toill attendinge his Majesty at his<br />

corronatione, I uas ui<strong>the</strong> him at St. Jameses at nyne a'clok<br />

this night ; and now, after I was abede, he hes sent Mr,<br />

Frowd ui<strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong> inclosed Letter for your <strong>Grace</strong>, uhich<br />

he orders me to send by <strong>the</strong> post. He sayd nothinge to me <strong>of</strong> it,<br />

nor doe I know anythinge <strong>of</strong> its contents. I am so weary that I<br />

am able to say no mor. My college is in uaetinge, iff it be not<br />

some frek <strong>of</strong> his uhi[c]h he uill not be seen in, I know not uhat<br />

it means.<br />

96. Moray was forced to send <strong>the</strong> Trumpets' coats along with<br />

Mr. Deans, for <strong>the</strong>y could not have been in time by sea, to attend<br />

Queensberry on <strong>the</strong> day <strong>of</strong> riding <strong>the</strong> parliament. " This day I<br />

houp <strong>the</strong>r uill be order for expedinge <strong>the</strong> Lord Register's patent.<br />

I am to uaet on <strong>the</strong> Kinge about it this afternone, so by next you<br />

shall hawe <strong>the</strong> certine account <strong>of</strong> it; long looked for coms at last."<br />

On <strong>the</strong> same day was written a letter recommending <strong>the</strong> Earl<br />

<strong>of</strong> '' Beridalbine," which begins thus " This is to recommend <strong>the</strong><br />

Earle <strong>of</strong> Beridalbine to your <strong>Grace</strong>'s favor and protectione. I am<br />

verry mutch assured <strong>of</strong> his foruard zeall to serve yow, as ueall as <strong>of</strong><br />

his abiletye to doe it. I belive <strong>the</strong> Kinge hes urytin to your<br />

<strong>Grace</strong> in his behalf, and hes confidence in his fidelyty in his<br />

service : he hes bine ill used by some o<strong>the</strong>rs, and does not spaer<br />

to let <strong>the</strong>m know it." He was confident Breadalbane was his<br />

friend, and would be entirely Queensberry's servant.<br />

97. May it pleas your <strong>Grace</strong>, My dear Lord,—I hawe yours<br />

by <strong>the</strong> flyeinge paket last night about elevin acloke, and this day<br />

uaeted on <strong>the</strong> Kinge and gawe him ane account <strong>of</strong> uhat it brought.<br />

I am order'd to draw <strong>the</strong> 3 Additionall Instructions, uhich shall<br />

be sent by next post. <strong>The</strong> Kinge hes alreddy appointed some <strong>of</strong><br />

his troups in Irland to lye on that coast that is nearest <strong>Scotland</strong><br />

and a yaucht is orderd to goe to Grinoke, and <strong>the</strong>r to reseawe<br />

sutch orders as your <strong>Grace</strong> and <strong>the</strong> Councill shall giwe for<br />

garding <strong>the</strong> passage. She hes no men aboard from this, but her<br />

comple"^^ <strong>of</strong> seamen for seali[n]ge; but his Majesty says you<br />

must put 20 or 30 sojors aboard her, uhich uill be sufficient for<br />

that service. He hes also order'd two troups <strong>of</strong> Dragowns to lye<br />

on <strong>the</strong> Caerlyle border : and Coll. Stru<strong>the</strong>rs hes on troup alreddy<br />

in Northumberland to attend <strong>the</strong> motions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rascally fugetives.<br />

I hawe sent for Zacharias Burne, to be hear ui<strong>the</strong> me tomorrow<br />

morninge, that I may interrogat all he knows <strong>of</strong> Fergussone or<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs, for <strong>the</strong> Kinge says he is confident he can witnes no mor<br />

but that Fergusson uas in his and his fa<strong>the</strong>r's houss ; and iff so,<br />

it uear in vaen to send him ; and his Majisty says he is a very<br />

ingenous fellow, and uill consell nothinge he knows. Of this you<br />

shall hawe a furder account by <strong>the</strong> next. I am appointed to<br />

inquyr at some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tressury uhat expenss is giwen to witnesses
