A precept <strong>of</strong> Sasine followed, directed to John Lindesay <strong>of</strong> Colbanetoune<br />

and John Lindesay, his son, bailies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Earl's lordship ot<br />

Craufurd Lindesay, same date, which was completed by Sasine given<br />

on <strong>the</strong> 24th <strong>of</strong> November <strong>the</strong> same year.<br />

132. Certification <strong>of</strong> Sasine by "Ihone Halidai <strong>of</strong> Hoddome"<br />

given to " Ihone <strong>of</strong> lohnstoune <strong>of</strong> that ilk," in <strong>the</strong> 10 s. *' wortht <strong>of</strong><br />

land" in <strong>the</strong> Manys <strong>of</strong> Hoddome, which <strong>the</strong> said John Johnstone<br />

had before by charter and sasine, and o<strong>the</strong>r 10 s. worth <strong>of</strong> land in <strong>the</strong><br />

tenement <strong>of</strong> Hoddom,.to wit, <strong>the</strong> Closcr<strong>of</strong>t, an acre in <strong>the</strong> Ryddinis, <strong>the</strong><br />

Kil acre, three roods lying between <strong>the</strong> Gild us ford and <strong>the</strong> Kil acre,<br />

five roods marcliing with <strong>the</strong> Tynclar lands, two oxgang called <strong>the</strong><br />

Tynclar lands, an acre <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Cotcr<strong>of</strong>t, half an acre <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dwn cr<strong>of</strong>t, a<br />

rood in <strong>the</strong> Smytht cr<strong>of</strong>t, <strong>of</strong> which Halidai gave sasine to Johnstone<br />

" at <strong>the</strong> sulzeis " (soil) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lands, 23 October 1480 before witnesses.<br />

133. Proccjratory <strong>of</strong> Resignation <strong>of</strong> Herbert Gryme <strong>of</strong> Raffulgill^.<br />

appointing William Lord Borthwik, John Duundas <strong>of</strong> that ilk and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs to resign his lands <strong>of</strong> Raffulgill, containing a 20 s. land <strong>of</strong> old<br />

extent, in <strong>the</strong> parish <strong>of</strong> Mouswalde, lordship <strong>of</strong> Annandale, and sheriffdom<br />

<strong>of</strong> Drumfrece, held <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> King's Highness in chief, in <strong>the</strong> hands<br />

<strong>of</strong> King James <strong>the</strong> Third. Seal attached at <strong>the</strong> Manor <strong>of</strong> Mouswalde,<br />

4 May 1484. Witnesses, Thomas Bell <strong>of</strong> Kirkconnell and o<strong>the</strong>rs. Seal<br />

remaining, slightly broken. Circumscription, " S. Herberti Gryme."<br />

134. Letters <strong>of</strong> Licence by King James <strong>the</strong> Fourth to Peter Dennom<br />

<strong>of</strong> Creakane, to sell his 50 s. worth <strong>of</strong> land <strong>of</strong> old extent <strong>of</strong> Glencors and<br />

Dalquhargzeane, in <strong>the</strong> sheriffdom <strong>of</strong> Drumfries, to be held <strong>of</strong> himself or<br />

his heirs, or <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> King and his successors ; and wills and grants that<br />

<strong>the</strong> said alienation " salbe na caus <strong>of</strong> recognisione nor forfettour <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

saidis landis," nor prejudice to Peter or his heirs ; and ratifies such<br />

alienation. <strong>The</strong> present writ to be <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same force as if given under<br />

<strong>the</strong> great seal, and <strong>the</strong> King renounces all right he might have to <strong>the</strong><br />

lands by reason <strong>of</strong> escheat or forfeiture through such alienation. Given<br />

[This writ appears to have been issued in consequence <strong>of</strong> an indenture<br />

<strong>of</strong> sale by which Peter Dennwm <strong>of</strong> Crechawchquhen sells to William<br />

Dowglas <strong>of</strong> Drumlangrig, knight, his lands <strong>of</strong> Glencors and Darquharren,<br />

extending to five nobles worth <strong>of</strong> land <strong>of</strong> old extent, in <strong>the</strong> parish <strong>of</strong><br />

Kilosberu, to be held <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> King ; all for 85 merks : with warrandice<br />

against all tacks except one to Robert Maxvel by <strong>the</strong> said Peter's fa<strong>the</strong>r<br />
