titles, honours, degrees, order, and dignities are holdin, in favours and<br />

for a new patent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> samen to be made, granted and disponed back<br />

again to our selfe and to our aires <strong>of</strong> taylzie already nominat and<br />

appoynted, or to be nominat or appoynted by us, to succeid to us in our<br />

fortune and estate <strong>of</strong> Queinsberrie in all tyme coming, <strong>the</strong> said aires <strong>of</strong><br />

taylzie being allwayes <strong>the</strong> descendants <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> body <strong>of</strong> William great<br />

grandfa<strong>the</strong>r to us, <strong>the</strong> said James <strong>Duke</strong> <strong>of</strong> Queinsberrie, and first created<br />

Earle <strong>of</strong> Quenisberrie, to be holdine <strong>of</strong> her said Majest}^ and her said<br />

royal successours in such dwe and competent forme, as effeirs : provyding<br />

and declairing allwayes, lykeas it is heirby speciallie provyded and<br />

declaired, and so to be provyded and declaired by <strong>the</strong> patent to follow<br />

heirupon, that <strong>the</strong> samen resignation shall be no wayes prejudicial! to<br />

us nor our forsaid aires <strong>of</strong> taylzie, named or to be named, <strong>of</strong> any <strong>of</strong> our<br />

former titles, hcnours, degrees, precedencie, orders, dignities, and patents<br />

<strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong>, formerly granted to us and our predecessours <strong>the</strong>reanent : Acts,<br />

instruments, and documents, one or more, as neid beis in <strong>the</strong> [premises]<br />

to take and [deliver and scale], and thir presents be registrat [in <strong>the</strong><br />

books] <strong>of</strong>councell and session or any o<strong>the</strong>r judges books competent,<br />

to Sir Hew Dalrymple <strong>of</strong> Northberwick, Lord President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> session<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Scotland</strong>), att London, <strong>the</strong> twelveth day <strong>of</strong> Jnne, one thousand seven<br />

hundred and six years, before <strong>the</strong>se witnesses, David, Earle <strong>of</strong> Glasgow,<br />

Sir David Dalrymple <strong>of</strong> Hailes, Advocat, and <strong>the</strong> said Mr. James Craig.<br />

7. Instrument <strong>of</strong> Resignation following upon <strong>the</strong> said Procuratory,<br />

narrating that on <strong>the</strong> 17 day <strong>of</strong> June 1700 years, in presence <strong>of</strong> our<br />

sovereign Lady Anne by <strong>the</strong> grace <strong>of</strong> God, compeared personally Sir<br />

David Nairne, secretary depute for <strong>Scotland</strong>, as procurator constituted<br />

by James <strong>Duke</strong> <strong>of</strong> Queensberry &c., and <strong>the</strong>re <strong>the</strong> said Sir David<br />

Nairne, with all due humility and reverence resigned <strong>the</strong> said James<br />

<strong>Duke</strong> <strong>of</strong> Queensberry's title <strong>of</strong> <strong>Duke</strong>, Marquis <strong>of</strong> Dumfriesshire, Earl<br />

<strong>of</strong> Drumlanrig and Sanquhar, Viscount <strong>of</strong> Nith, Torthorwell and Ros,<br />

Lord Douglas <strong>of</strong> Kinmount, Middlebie and Dornock, in <strong>the</strong> hands <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Queen's Majesty, in favour and for new patent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same to be
