5. Strengthen<strong>in</strong>g Communities<br />

Investment has also been made to strengthen several<br />

downtown communities. For example, Regent Park is<br />

currently be<strong>in</strong>g transformed and an important<br />

<strong>in</strong>stitutional <strong>in</strong>vestment to support this enhancement<br />

is new community hall. Similarly, the Wellesley<br />

Community Centre, a “priority centre” designed to<br />

service the needs <strong>of</strong> the residents <strong>of</strong> St. Jamestown,<br />

was opened <strong>in</strong> 2005.<br />

6. Increas<strong>in</strong>g Mobility –<br />

Revitaliz<strong>in</strong>g Union Station<br />

<strong>The</strong> City and the prov<strong>in</strong>ce have been <strong>in</strong>vest<strong>in</strong>g<br />

heavily <strong>in</strong> Union Station (approximately $44 million)<br />

over the past decade. This <strong>in</strong>vestment will be critical,<br />

given Union Station’s central and grow<strong>in</strong>g role <strong>in</strong> the<br />

regional transit network. <strong>The</strong> City has also <strong>in</strong>vested <strong>in</strong><br />

the PATH Master Plan to improve pedestrian flows<br />

around the downtown and connectivity with Union<br />

Station.<br />
