16 and 18 of the 21 juveniles within the first tl1ree and five searches performed around their<br />
mother, respectively (Fig. 2.3a). We found 17 of the 21 juveniles within the first 30 minutes<br />
of the search (Fig. 2.3b). We could ca1cu<strong>la</strong>te distance b<strong>et</strong>ween juvenile and mother for 19<br />
juveniles found. Distance was:::; 5 m for 11 juveniles, < Sm and:::; 15 m for sixjuveniles, and<br />
< 15 m and :::; 30 m for the two remaining ones.<br />
Marking<br />
We marked 136 a<strong>du</strong>lts and 29 juveniles. Color and sign-co<strong>de</strong>d ear tags were readable<br />
with binocu<strong>la</strong>rs from 10-20 m <strong>de</strong>pending on veg<strong>et</strong>ation <strong>de</strong>nsity. Juveniles never lost their<br />
mini-tags. Sixt y-one of the 136 a<strong>du</strong>lts lost one or more aluminum tags b<strong>et</strong>ween consecutive<br />
captures (mean time interval b<strong>et</strong>ween consecutive captures = 61 ± 3 days) but could be<br />
r<strong>et</strong>agged before they had lost ail four tags. Tags were lost more often tban mini-tags (79 tags<br />
vs. 35 mini-tags, li = 21.48, p
