Enrollment
The Ph.D. Program requires three years of full-time study. Your master's work may be
considered the first year. The remaining pre-qualifying examination residency requirement can
be met by fulfilling one of the three residency models approved by the Graduate School: or
two consecutive semesters of full-time study (9 credit hours); or three consecutive semesters
with at least six credit hours per semester; or 24 credit hours at UK taken within three
consecutive academic (or calendar) years (no more than nine of these 24 credits may be earned
in summer sessions). A maximum of five years post-qualifying examination is allotted for
completion of degree requirements (see Graduate School Bulletin).
