Your master's work may be considered the first year. The remaining pre-qualifying examination residency requirement can be met by fulfilling one of the three residency models approved by the Graduate School: or two consecutive semesters of full-time study (9 credit hours); or three consecutive semesters with at least six credit hours per semester; or 24 credit hours at UK taken within three consecutive academic (or calendar) years (no more than nine of these 24 credits may be earned in summer sessions). A maximum of five years post-qualifying examination is allotted for completion of degree requirements (see Graduate School Bulletin). Final Examination - University of Kentucky College of Nursing http://www.mc.uky.edu/nursing/StuResources/grads/handbook2005-06/final_exam.htm Page 1 of 1 2/24/2011 Final Examination • Your final examination will be conducted by an expanded advisory committee chaired by the assistant dean or a designee. The dean of the Graduate School and president of the University are ex-officio members of the committee. • Your examination is held in a public forum. Any member of the University community may attend. • Once the advisory committee obtains copies of the final draft of your dissertation, your committee will advise your major professor to schedule your examination with the assistant dean. • The Graduate School appoints the outside examiner upon receipt of the notification of the Intent to Schedule a Final Doctoral Examination Form from the assistant dean at least eight weeks before the event. • The Graduate School establishes the time and date of your final exam two weeks before the examination. • At least two weeks before the examination you will deliver to the Graduate School: ◦ a copy of your dissertation ◦ the Request for Final Doctoral Examination ◦ the Dissertation Approval Sheet, both signed by your advisory committee. ◦ Once your dissertation is reviewed and approved by the Graduate School, you deliver a copy of your dissertation to the outside examiner and to the assistant dean. ◦ You must apply to the Graduate School for the Ph.D. degree according to the dates given in the University calendar.
