<strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Activities and Advisory Committee<br />
According to rules <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> Senate, the faculty <strong>of</strong> each College within the<br />
<strong>University</strong> and the faculty <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Graduate</strong> School must establish some form <strong>of</strong> student<br />
advisory council to represent student opinion on academic matters. The <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Student</strong><br />
Activities and Advisory Committee (GSAAC) conforms to the rules <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong><br />
Senate.<br />
Functions:<br />
• Fosters communication between faculty and students<br />
• Plans and implements programs <strong>of</strong> interest to the graduate students and nursing<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>ession<br />
• Reviews and makes recommendations to the dean regarding:<br />
◦ <strong>Student</strong> conduct in terms <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional nursing ethics and related <strong>University</strong><br />
and Medical Center documents<br />
◦ Evaluation procedures for courses and teaching<br />
• Advises the dean regarding proposed appointment and promotion <strong>of</strong> faculty<br />
members in accordance with <strong>University</strong> Administrative Regulations (ARII-1.0-1)<br />
• Evaluates the programs <strong>of</strong> the College that relate to students and makes<br />
recommendations to the dean<br />
• Identifies resources and support systems which will facilitate successful completion<br />
<strong>of</strong> the program<br />
• Identifies student problems and concerns and recommends appropriate actions to the<br />
dean<br />
• Evaluates activities <strong>of</strong> the graduate student body annually and makes<br />
recommendations to the dean<br />
Membership:<br />
• Six students, elected by the graduate student body (three master's, two doctoral from<br />
campus, and one master's from an outreach site)<br />
• One graduate faculty member, elected by the graduate student body<br />
• <strong>Student</strong> services <strong>of</strong>ficer<br />
• Assistant dean for research and the Ph.D. program, ex-<strong>of</strong>ficio and the assistant dean<br />
for advanced practice nursing<br />
• Chair to be elected from among the student members
