College <strong>of</strong> Nursing Alumni Association<br />
Objectives<br />
• To promote the best interests and welfare <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kentucky</strong> College <strong>of</strong><br />
Nursing<br />
• To fully acquaint the membership <strong>of</strong> the association with the progress and needs <strong>of</strong> their<br />
alma mater<br />
• To assist in interpreting the <strong>University</strong> and the College, its work, and its services to the<br />
people <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kentucky</strong> and the nation<br />
• To encourage loyalty to the <strong>University</strong> and the College, and closer bonds <strong>of</strong> fellowship<br />
among alumni<br />
Membership<br />
Membership in the Association shall consist <strong>of</strong> graduates from any <strong>of</strong> the programs <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kentucky</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Nursing who pay membership dues. The bylaws <strong>of</strong> the<br />
association may provide for other classes <strong>of</strong> membership in the association.<br />
Awards<br />
The UK College <strong>of</strong> Nursing Alumni Association gives three awards annually. Nominations for<br />
these awards are from the Association members. The Awards Committee determines the final<br />
selections. The three awards are:<br />
Carolyn A. Williams Award<br />
• Ph.D. or D.N.P. graduating class<br />
• GPA 3.0 or higher<br />
• Demonstrated support <strong>of</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Nursing activities (in addition to course requirements)<br />
• Demonstrated scholarly activity during tenure at college, which may include national, regional, local<br />
educational presentations, publications, grant funding for research, demonstrated activity in pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
nursing organizations<br />
• Demonstration <strong>of</strong> mentoring behavior to nursing students in master's or bachelor's program<br />
• Recommendation by one member from Ph.D. or D.N.P. faculty with supporting letter from at least one<br />
additional faculty member from the College<br />
Presidential Award<br />
• Master's program graduating class<br />
• GPA 3.0 or greater<br />
• Demonstrated support <strong>of</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Nursing activities (in additional to course requirements)<br />
• Demonstration <strong>of</strong> mentoring behavior to nursing student in bachelor’s degree program<br />
• Demonstrated involvement in pr<strong>of</strong>essional nursing organization while a student in college<br />
• Recommendation by one faculty member from master’s program with supporting letter from at least one<br />
additional faculty member from the College
