Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act<br />
(HIPAA)<br />
The federal government has begun implementation <strong>of</strong> the Health Insurance Portability and<br />
Accountability Act. This law has many purposes and provisions. Those that affect all health<br />
care providers most directly relate to ensuring the privacy and security <strong>of</strong> protected health<br />
information. Federal law requires that all health care employees and health pr<strong>of</strong>essions<br />
students receive training about HIPPA. Training is mandatory and must be completed before<br />
you will be allowed to participate in clinical practica or data collection. Please notify the<br />
Office <strong>of</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Services (323-5108) if you have not completed this training within the first<br />
eight weeks <strong>of</strong> your first enrollment in the College <strong>of</strong> Nursing.<br />
