2007 Review
Summ a ry
The Texans (2-1) lost for the first time this season, falling to the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 30-24. Houston opened
the game against its divisional rival with WR Jerome Mathis scoring on an 84-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. On
the next possession, QB Peyton Manning drove his team downfield, connecting with TE Dallas Clark for a two-yard
touchdown run to even the score at 7-7. The Texans responded with their own drive that resulted in a second-quarter,
33-yard field goal by K Kris Brown to put the Texans ahead 10-7. The Colts once again took the field and marched
towards the red zone with Manning handing it off to RB Joseph Addai for a four-yard run to give the Colts a 14-10 lead
going into halftime. The third quarter was all Colts. K Adam Vinatieri scored on a 26-yard field goal. Indy LB Rocky
Boiman intercepted a QB Matt Schaub intended for WR Jacoby Jones, setting up an a eight-yard touchdown for Addai.
Penalties kept the Texans from putting together thier offense, and Vinatieri closed the third quarter with a 28-yard
field goal to put the Colts ahead 27-10. The Texans rallied in the fourth quarter. A 41-yard pass from Schaub to WR
Andre’ Davis set up a one-yard touchdown run by RB Samkon Gado. Houston’s defense was then able to hold Indy to
a 35-yard Vinatieri field goal. Schaub led the troops once again in a scoring drive, connecting with FB Vonta Leach in
the end zone for a one-yard touchdown. The Texans’ defense buckled down and held the Colts scoreless for the rest
of the game, but the Texans’ offense was not able to put together a last-minute touchdown drive. The Texans not only
lost their first game of the season, they lost several key players to injuries, including Jones, DT Cedric Killings and RB
Ahman Green.
