Summ a ry
The Texans (5-7) fell in a tough road loss at LP Field. Houston marched its way down the field on the opening possession
to take a 7-0 lead thanks to a one-yard TD run by RB Ron Dayne. Tennessee responded with a long drive of its own,
tying the score at 7-7 on a one-yard TD run by RB LenDale White. On the Texans’ next possession, QB Matt Schaub was
knocked out of the game with a separated left shoulder after being sacked by Titans DE Antwan Odom. K Kris Brown
nailed a 45-yard FG near the end of the second quarter to put the Texans back on top, 10-7. In the third quarter, the
Titans outscored the Texans 14-0 on the strength of two QB Vince Young TD passes, one to WR Roydell Williams for 43
yards and the other an 11-yard hookup with WR Justin Gage that made the score 21-10 Tennessee heading into the final
period. Houston cut the deficit to four when QB Sage Rosenfels connected with WR Andre Johnson for a 28-yard TD.
The Texans then forced Tennessee into a three-and-out, but WR Jacoby Jones fumbled the punt return and the Titans
recovered, setting up a seven-yard TD run by RB Chris Brown. With the score 28-17, rookie CB Fred Bennett picked off
Young for his third interception of the season, and the Texans capitalized when Brown made a 50-yard FG to bring the
Texans within one possession. Texans DE Mario Williams’ second solo sack of the game led to a quick Tennessee punt,
but Rosenfels was intercepted by S Michael Griffin on the Texans’ ensuing possession to quash the Texans’ comeback
hopes. In the loss, Mario Williams finished with 2.5 sacks to become the Texans’ all-time single-season sacks leader
with 8.5, LB DeMeco Ryans tallied a season-high 14 tackles, and Brown moved to a perfect five-of-five on field goal
attempts from 50+ yards on the season.
