Ray Wright<br />

Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach<br />

8th NFL Season • 7th with <strong>Texans</strong><br />

Ray Wright enters his seventh season as assistant<br />

strength and conditioning coach for the<br />

<strong>Houston</strong> <strong>Texans</strong>. Wright assists Dan Riley in all<br />

aspects of the <strong>Texans</strong>’ exhaustive strength and<br />

conditioning program.<br />

Before coming to <strong>Houston</strong>, Wright spent one<br />

season as the assistant strength and conditioning<br />

coach at the University of Maryland, helping<br />

the Terps capture the Atlantic Coast Conference<br />

title and a berth in the Orange Bowl.<br />

Prior to his stint in College Park, Wright spent<br />

six months with the Chicago Bears as a college<br />

and pro personnel assistant. He spent the 2000<br />

season as the recruiting coordinator at Cornell<br />

University.<br />

Wright launched his NFL career with the<br />

Washington Redskins in 1997, serving as a<br />

scouting intern. He was promoted to college/<br />

pro scouting administrator in 1998, then to the<br />

club’s director of player programs in 1999.<br />

Wright played football at Duke from 1990-95<br />

before working as a personal trainer for one<br />

year at Gold’s Gym in Durham, N.C.<br />

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Wright is a certified<br />

strength and conditioning specialist and<br />

has his United States of America Weightlifting<br />

Coaching Certification. He is single and lives in<br />

<strong>Houston</strong>.<br />

Drafting Inside Out<br />

<strong>Houston</strong>’s selection of T Duane Brown in the first round of the<br />

2008 draft is a continuation of the team’s ongoing effort to build<br />

along the line of scrimmage through the draft. <strong>Houston</strong> has<br />

used five consecutive first-round picks on linemen, focusing on<br />

the defensive side until this year. Brown joins DT Amobi Okoye<br />

(2007, 10th overall), DE Mario Williams (2006, 1st overall),<br />

DT Travis Johnson (2005, 16th overall) and DE Jason Babin<br />

(2005, 27th overall) as <strong>Texans</strong> first-round picks on the line of<br />

scrimmage.<br />
