Summ a ry
The Texans (2-2) suffered their second consecutive loss of the season, falling to the Atlanta Falcons by a score of
26-16. The Falcons put the first points on the board early in the first quarter with a 28-yard field goal from K Morten
Andersen. The Texans responded with a quick scoring drive that resulted in a 35-yard touchdown pass from QB Matt
Schaub to WR André Davis, putting the Texans ahead 7-3. The Falcons then answered with their own scoring drive.
QB Joey Harrington looked to RB Jerious Norwood to carry the ball upfield before the quarterback finally connected
with WR Michael Jenkins for a five-yard touchdown pass. In the second quarter, Houston struggled to get into an
offensive groove. FB Vonta Leach fumbled a pass from Schaub, which set up another Atlanta touchdown as Harrington
connected with Jenkins for a seven-yard pass in the end zone. Several possessions late, Andersen booted through a
22-yarder to give the Falcons a 20-7 lead. The Texans fought back before halftime, getting a 42-yard field goal from K
Kris Brown as the clock expired. In the second half, the Texans moved the ball well, but squandered a pair of third-andgoals
from the Atlanta one-yard line, winding up with only three points off those possessions. Meanwhile, the Falcons
were able to maintain their lead by kicking a pair of field goals. The Texans’ final chance came with just over two
minutes remaining. Schaub ran up the middle and dove into the end zone, initially getting credit for a 13-yard touchdown
run that could have pulled Houston within a field goal. But the Falcons challenged, and the replay showed Schaub went
down just short of the end zone. On third-and-goal from the 1, Schaub tried a quick pitch to RB Ron Dayne, but the ball
bounced off his hands and rolled out of bounds at the seven. Brown then yanked a 25-yard field goal attempt wide,
sealing Atlanta’s first win since last Dec. 10 at Tampa Bay and handing the Texans their second loss of the season.
