The Texans (3-3) dropped to .500 after falling to the Jacksonville Jaguars 37-17 at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.
Houston moved the ball well early on but failed to get a touchdown on three quick trips to the red zone. The Texans
went ahead 3-0 on the opening drive with a 20-yard field goal by K Kris Brown and appeared to extend their lead on a
10-yard touchdown pass from QB Matt Schaub to WR André Davis, but the play was overturned. Officials ruled that
Davis fumbled the ball out of the end zone before crossing the goal line, resulting in a Jacksonville touchback. In the
second quarter, Brown’s 35-yard field goal put the Texans up 6-0 after CB Demarcus Faggins recovered a fumble forced
by FS C.C. Brown. Jacksonville responded with a touchdown on a one-yard pass from QB David Garrard to WR George
Wrighster to make the score 7-6. The Jaguars then executed a surprise onside kick that led to a 37-yard field goal from
K John Carney and a 10-6 halftime advantage. In the third quarter, the Jags struck again on a nine-yard touchdown
pass from Garrard to WR Reggie Williams, but Texans SS Michael Boulware blocked the extra point attempt to keep
the score at 16-6. The Jaguars later muffed a punt return that was recovered by S Will Demps, leading to a 33-yard field
goal by Brown that brought the Texans within 16-9 heading into the fourth quarter. Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew
scored on a seven-yard run to make it 23-9, and LB Daryl Smith returned a Schaub fumble 77 yards to the end zone
to extend the lead to 30-9 midway through the fourth quarter. Schaub then drove the Texans down the field but was
intercepted by CB Brian Williams in Jacksonville territory on a controversial call. Jacksonville tacked on its final score
on a 57-yard run by Jones-Drew. Backup QB Sage Rosenfels entered the game for the Texans’ final possession and
capped a long drive capped with a one-yard touchdown pass to FB Vonta Leach. RB Samkon Gado ran the ball in for a
two-point conversion to end the scoring at 37-17.
