2007 Review
The Texans (4-5) stopped a three-game skid, defeating the Oakland Raiders 24-17 in McAffee Coliseum. After the
Texans’ defense forced a three-and-out on the first possession, Houston marched up the field, thanks to a 53-yard
screen pass from QB Sage Rosenfels to RB Ahman Green. Green finished the 84-yard drive with an eight-yard run into
the end zone to give his team a 7-0 lead. Houston ended the first period with an interception by LB Danny Clark, but lost
CB Dunta Robinson for the season with hamstring and knee injuries. In the second quarter, CB Fred Bennett intercepted
a pass from QB Josh McCown intended for WR Ron Curry. The interception helped to set up 14-yard touchdown run by
RB Ron Dayne to make the score 14-0. Dayne finished the game with 21 carries for a season-high 122 yards. On the next
possession, a Raiders’ drive stalled at the Houston 46, prompting coach Lane Kiffin to try a record-setting 64-yard field
goal instead of punting on fourth-and-nine. K Sebastian Janikowski booted the ball off the right upright and the Texans
took over at the Oakland 46. The offense moved the ball 24 yards and K Kris Brown nailed a 40-yard field goal, making it
17-0 at halftime. Janikowski returned in the third quarter to kick a 22-yard field goal to give the Raiders their first score
of the game. Then RB Justin Fargas ignited the rushing attack in the fourth quarter, completing an 85-yard drive with
a one-yard touchdown run to make the score 17-10. On the ensuing drive, Rosenfels connected with WR André Davis
on a 42-yard touchdown pass to put the Texans ahead 24-10. After Davis’ touchdown catch, McCown threw his third
interception with LB DeMeco Ryans picking off the pass. McCown continued to fight, throwing a 28-yard TD pass to
WR Tim Dwight with 1:30 left. However, Houston recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock. Rosenfels started for
the first time this season, relieving a concussed QB Matt Schuab. The backup quarterback came into the game with
the third-best quarterback rating in the fourth quarter (125.1) and has thrown all seven of his touchdown passes in the
fourth period this season. He finished the game 11-for-19 for 181 yards and one interception, going three-for-three for 47
yards in the final quarter. His performance helped Houston grab their fourth victory before heading into the bye week.
