Summ a ry
The Texans (8-8) earned their best record in franchise history with a 42-28 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in
Reliant Stadium. WR André Davis became just the seventh player in NFL history to return two kickoffs for touchdowns.
The Texans’ 42 points were a team record. RB Ron Dayne began the Texans’ scoring spree with two-yard touchdown
run at the beginning of the second quarter to tie the score at 7-7. Minutes before the half, TE Owen Daniels gave the
Texans the lead, catching a two-yard touchdown pass from QB Sage Rosenfels. The Jaguars responded with a sixyard
touchdown pass from QB Quinn Gray to WR. Ernest Wilford to tie the game at 14-14. On the ensuing possession,
Davis returned his first kickoff for a touchdown, cutting to the outside and tight-roping down the sidelines for a 97
yards. The touchdown came 15 seconds before halftime, giving the Texans a 21-14 lead. On the first play of the second
half, Davis turned in the longest return in Texans’ history. He dashed 104 yards on the opening kickoff to make it 28-14.
When the Texans got the ball back, they put together a 64-yard drive that resulted in a 12-yard touchdown run by RB
Ron Dayne to the increase the lead to 35-14. Jacksonville finished the quarter with WR Matt Jones catching a five-yard
touchdown pass from Gray to make the score 35-21. On the ensuing possession, the Texans marched the ball up the
field 71 yards with RB Darius Walker finding the end zone on a one-yard touchdown run. The score gave the Texans a
42-21 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Jaguars managed another score on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Gray to
Wilford, but the damage had already been done. The Texans finished with 170 yards on the ground. Dayne added two
touchdowns and 88 yards rushing in his return after missing two starts with a sore ankle. He also set a career-high with
773 yards this season. Davis’ pair of kickoffs for touchdowns helped give him a 30.3 return average for the season. The
win was Houston’s first in AFC South play and helped Houston reach .500 for the first time in franchise history.
