Copi, Ryan Hired High School Policy/LD/NFA Judge/1 yr debating/3 yrs judging I am a flow judge. I hate resolution of fact debates, and I do not care if you default to policy. I also do not punish people for speed or for creative arguments. As a flow judge, I probably don't have to write that I want you to paint the picture for me--tell me why you win, clearly signpost, and pull things across the flow if they are dropped. I won't listen to new arguments in the rebuttal but feel free to point them out in case I miss them. I will listen to anything, including procedure, but don't abuse that. If it's clearly debatable, just debate it. I get bored and annoyed with resolutionality/T debates. If you are running a kritik, please make sure your link is crystal clear, and please tell your story logically. Do not assume I know what critical feminist jurisprudence is; explain it to me in your own words and apply it effectively through your link argumentation. Also, for purposes of disclosure, and because they say that your subconscious defines your decisions even when you don't know that's happening, I will disclose that I am a third year law student, and identify with the left. This does not mean I will intervene to inject my beliefs improperly, and I will be as tab. rasa as I humanly can. Overall, have fun, be nice to one another, grow, learn, and debate. 36
Cress, Justin Western Kentucky University Background of the critic: 4 years LD & Parli at Western Kentucky University Undergrad degrees in Philosophy and Economics Currently working on an MA in Applied Economics Approach of the critic to decision-making (for example, adherence to the trichotomy, stock-issues, policymaker, tabula rasa, etc.): I try my best not to intervene. I think that the "approach to decision making" is at issue in every round. I certainly have my own preferences, but expressing them before round is tantamount to pre-round intervention. Relative importance of presentation/communication skills to the critic in decision-making : if I miss arguments because they are not communicated effectively, that's your fault, but that's the only scenario under which I could imagine the way you talk having an effect on the ballot. Relative importance of on-case argumentation to the critic in decision-making: Again, the answer to this question is at issue in every round. Weigh arguments. Openness to critical/performative styles of debating: I'm open to all arguments. There are many that I don't like very much, and if it's something trendy or critical I probably have not heard it before, so I may not fully understand it unless it is explained well. That said, run your argument and win it = a ballot for you. Any additional comments: Parli has point of orders, i think that means it is your responsability to call them. If i were to call a point of order in my head during the LOR or the PMR, I'm pretty sure i'm debating for you. I won't do that. Call the POO, even if you think it might be annoying.
