Patient factors potentially associated<br />
with AKI were investigated including:<br />
Apgar scores, cord pH and base deficit,<br />
delivery room complicati<strong>on</strong>s, severity of<br />
illness (need for pressors, transfusi<strong>on</strong>s),<br />
and exposure to nephrotoxic<br />
medicati<strong>on</strong>s. Results: AKI was found in<br />
36 (38%) of 96 infants with 16, 7, and<br />
13 fulfilling criteria for stage I, II, and<br />
III, respectively. Overall mortality was<br />
7% for the cohort and was higher for<br />
those who suffered AKI compared to<br />
those who did not, but did not reach<br />
statistical significance (14% vs. 3%, p=<br />
.99). Patients with AKI stayed l<strong>on</strong>ger in<br />
the Ne<strong>on</strong>atal Intensive Care unit<br />
(15.4±9.3 vs. 11±5.9 days, p=.14), and<br />
required prol<strong>on</strong>ged mechanical<br />
ventilati<strong>on</strong> (9.7±5.9 vs. 4.8±3.7 days,<br />
p46 ng/ml), the decreasing group (the<br />
