Educati<strong>on</strong>al Objectives:<br />

1. Develop tools for identifying patients with stage D heart failure<br />

2. Learn management strategies for the severely c<strong>on</strong>gested patient with heart failure.<br />

3. Learn about the newest opti<strong>on</strong>s for providing mechanical circulatory support for such patients.<br />

C<strong>on</strong>tent Descripti<strong>on</strong>:<br />

Heart Failure remains the number <strong>on</strong>e reas<strong>on</strong> for hospitalizati<strong>on</strong> am<strong>on</strong>g patients over 65 years of age. The<br />

majority of patients are admitted for c<strong>on</strong>gesti<strong>on</strong> and, suprisingly remain c<strong>on</strong>gested at the time of discharge. We<br />

will discuss opti<strong>on</strong>s for the patients with advanced heart failure, including aquaphoresis and mechanical circulatory<br />

support.<br />
