It is important to note that the OHS committee is an advisory body only and
cannot make decisions about OHS issues. That remains the responsibility of
the employer. An OHS committee assists the employer to make better decisions
by providing recommendations regarding OHS issues.
Employer responses to committee recommendations should be recorded in the
minutes. A reasonable period for responding to recommendations should be
determined in consultation with the committee. There may be different time
frames depending on the significance of the hazard.
